Alternative Christmas

We know how difficult it can be in the run up to Christmas. Everyone is jolly and running around excited and it can feel quite overwhelming.

We are hosting a Ceilidh and Asturian Fabada on 14 December. If you would like to attend please get in touch.

St Lawrence's Christmas Tree Festival

We will have a Christmas Tree on display at St Lawrence's Christmas Tree festival in memory of all our loved ones who have died by suicide.

If you would like to add your loved one's photo and a message to the chain of petals please email it to [email protected]

Our Sunset Ball 2018 was held at the Whitminster.

We had fire entertainers, we had a dance team flash mob, we had a magician, we had an art auction, we had band, we had dancing, we had a three course meal - but most of all, we had fun and all to raise money for Sunflowers.

Our thanks goes to Itchy Feet Dance Team and Arc Magic for you incredible dancing and mind boggling magic.

Also to Jola Malin and Duncan Williams for donating their wonderful art to the auction.

and of course not forgetting the 160 people that attended and supported us - making it an incredible evening. Thank you

We had an incredible day at our Stay in the Sun walk and art exhibition. We held this to mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2018. With 120 adult walks plus a whole load of kids, we walked together through the beautiful Miserden Estate.

There were cream teas and cakes awaiting the tired walkers on their return and a small exhibition of some of Pete's art.

The sun shone down on us and everyone was in good spirits. It was a really wonderful day together.

We enjoyed a wonderful two afternoons together as we held two butterfly releases at our Sunflowers Memorial Garden.

The butterflies were to represent that we have all had to let go and say goodbye to something beautiful.

Everyone was given a wooden heart to keep to remind them that although we can no longer see our loved ones, the memeories and love live on in our hearts.

We then enjoyed a picnic and relaxed afternoon together .

We had a wonderful day at Randwick Wap on Saturday 12 May.

Our Trustee Jo set up and manned our Sunflowers stand. It was a great event to raise awareness about who we are and what we do. We also had FREE activites to keep people entertained.

There were pots decorated with jewels, hopes and wishes planted along with sunflower seeds. Hopefully the summer will see these start to grow and bloom into bright yellow rays of sunshine.

We also launched our 'Kindness Rocks' which were a great success. Keep an eye out for them around the area and remember to post a picture with it to our social media accounts stating the kind word on the back!

We spent time together on 25 March planting our memorial garden.

Everyone was given a stone to paint in memory of their loved one, all the stones were placed together to represent a 'cairn'. When mountain climbing cairns are used to guide the way, to show you are on the right path, that someone has walked this way before. We wanted to show that you are not alone.

We then spent time planting sunflower seeds and eating cake. It was a peacful afternoon that enabled those bereaved to talk to others walking on this journey.

We look forward to seeing the flowers in bloom, shining bright yellow.

Lucy Barrett (Pete's Aunt) created a beautiful Christmas Tree for the festival held at St Laurence's Church.  People were invited to write on the back of Sunflower decorations in memory of their loved ones that have died by suicide. The tree was then displayed at Randwick Church and the decorations sent on to those who left contact details as memory keepsake.

We had a fantastic day for our 'Hope Walk' in memory of Pete which raised money for Papryus. With 100 walkers and beautiful weather we could not have asked for more. The scenery was wonderful and the conversation upbeat. We had so many different people join us from all walks of life. We are looking forward to another memorial walk next year.
