Job Title: Marketing & Communications Officer



Location: Stonehouse, Gloucestershire – working in office, from home, and within the Gloucestershire community
Length of Appointment: Minimum 12 months fixed term, subject to funding
Time Commitment: 15–20 hours per week – flexible working hours
Salary: £25,000 per annum pro rata

Purpose

The Marketing & Communications Officer will lead on the development and delivery of Sunflowers’ marketing and communications strategies. Working closely with the CEO, this role will be responsible for producing high-quality digital and print content, managing brand communications, and enhancing the visibility of Sunflowers across Gloucestershire and beyond. This includes promoting awareness campaigns, events, and fundraising activities, and developing creative content that tells the story of our mission and impact.

  

Main Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Strategy

  • Develop and deliver clear, consistent, and impactful marketing and communication plans in alignment with the charity’s mission.

  • Ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms and materials, reinforcing the Sunflowers brand and values.

  • Work with the CEO to identify key audiences and tailor communications accordingly.

 

Social Media and Digital Engagement

  • Manage the charity’s social media channels (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, You Tube), creating and scheduling engaging, inclusive, and informative content.

  • Monitor performance analytics and adapt content strategies to enhance reach and engagement.

  • Develop structured engagement templates and social media guidelines to support consistent interaction.

  • Engage with online audiences to foster a sense of community and increase awareness of the charity’s work.

 

Website and Online Content

  • Maintain and update the charity’s website using Wix, ensuring content is current, accessible, and aligned with ongoing campaigns.

  • Create dedicated campaign pages and ensure SEO best practices are applied where appropriate.

 

Content Creation and Storytelling

  • Write and distribute press releases to local and regional media to raise awareness of Sunflowers’ work.

  • Create newsletters and regular updates for stakeholders and supporters.

  • Develop compelling content including beneficiary stories (with appropriate consent), impact reports, and annual reviews.

 

Promotional Materials and Design

  • Design and produce promotional materials (e.g. posters, leaflets, digital assets) for events and campaigns.

  • Ensure that all designs align with Sunflowers’ brand identity and accessibility standards.

 

Awareness and Fundraising Campaigns

  • Collaborate on the planning and promotion of awareness and fundraising campaigns.

  • Develop campaign messaging and materials to educate and engage the public on suicide prevention.

  • Develop and implement promotional strategies for Sunflowers’ events and fundraising activities. Ensuring consistent messaging across fundraising and communication materials

  • Planning for key awareness days (like World Suicide Prevention Day)

  • Supporting major events that have both fundraising and awareness components

 

Media Relations and External Communication

  • Build and maintain relationships with local press and media contacts.

  • Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews or features when appropriate.

  • Draft external communications, ensuring clarity, sensitivity, and alignment with Sunflowers’ tone and purpose.

 

Brand and Impact Reporting

  • Maintain brand consistency across all touchpoints and materials.

  • Assist in producing reports that demonstrate Sunflowers’ reach, effectiveness, and community impact.

 

Research and Innovation

  • Research innovative practices to enhance stakeholder engagement and communication effectiveness.

  • Monitor trends in communication and engagement, implementing improvements where appropriate.

 

Administrative Support

  • Support general administrative and communications tasks as required by the CEO.

  • Prepare, format, proofread, and manage key documents, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.

  • Assist in preparing documentation and coordinating communication logistics for events and meetings.

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, or related field.

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Proficiency with social media platforms and content scheduling tools.

  • Basic graphic design skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).

  • Familiarity with website editing tools (preferably Wix).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage workload independently and flexibly across multiple projects.

 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the charity or non-profit sector.

  • Knowledge of suicide prevention or mental health communications.

  • Confidence in liaising with media and external stakeholders.
